Five Ways You Can Achieve Ultimate Career Happiness

Pursue your passions.

Chase your dreams.

Only accept a job in which you can be happy in!

Only do what you love.

Heard any of these before?

I’m willing to bet money that you have – because these tidbits are some of the most common pieces of advice people get about their careers.

So to set yourself up for a thriving, successful, & happy career, you’re going to have to do a little bit of legwork to give you a clear idea of what “happiness” really means to you and how a booming career can fit into that picture.

And in today’s blog, that is EXACTLY what we are going to focus on! Let’s dive in!

FIRST THINGS FIRST: DEFINING WHAT CAREER HAPPINESS MEANS TO YOU

For the majority of us, career happiness may be based on how much money you make, how you get along with your coworkers, flexibility that your job offers, or what job title you have. But the reality is that it’s so much more than that.

The truth is: People can have their dream job, but end up miserable because their commute is too long. Others love what they do but get burned out because they couldn’t maintain a good work-life balance.

So, in order to define “Career Happiness” for yourself, ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you enjoy the actual WORK you are doing while you are working?

  • Do you like what you do day in and day out of your job?

  • Do you get to do the things you want to do outside of your career?

If you answered YES to these questions, you are on the RIGHT path to creating a career you love. If you answered NO to any of these questions, keep reading!

5 SPECIFIC TIPS TO HELP YOU LOVE YOUR CAREER

  1. Beat your imposter syndrome. It’s time to work on building the confidence that you need to create a career by design. Believing that you can achieve whatever you put your mind to will be a ticket to creating a career you are really proud of.

  2. Avoid feeling overwhelmed. Being overwhelmed and totally stressed out are two of the easiest ways to end up feeling burned out and under-valued. To avoid this type of negative feeling, work on gaining clarity about what you want to do. Start saying no more than you say yes to new opportunities. Define what your priorities are and stay focused on these intentions.

  3. Flip the script on work-life balance. Change your mentality from “work-life balance” into “work-life integration.” The happiest people I know are the people who define their success on how their career fits into their life rather than the amount of hours they put in each week.

  4. Have something else besides work to focus on. Develop a passion project, side hustle, train for a half marathon...anything you want to get your mind OFF from the day to day grind! To develop ultimate career satisfaction, it is so critical to have other goals outside of your 9-5. Carve out time to invest in yourself, pursue your passions and see if they can start generating an income, take new classes, learn a new trade! Taking time off and having fulfillment outside of work can help you be more productive when you are at work, too, so that is always a perk to consider.

  5. Know that you are a work in progress. Continuously work on yourself because you’ll never be done growing. Investing in your personal growth and staying curious about all the ways you can improve your development will push you to new heights and new levels of satisfaction & happiness about your career!
