Beating Decision Fatigue

I've been thinking about you all week, and wondering if you are feeling the similar fatigue of January 2021 as myself & many of my clients are experiencing. This week I received a question that I would like to dive deeper into today:

Question: "Ashlee, I am tired. The exhaustion from the pandemic + overwhelm of politics + managing work + family life + all-of-the-things is getting to me. I no longer desire to make any big decisions or create big goals for myself because of all of this. How do I get out of this funk?"

Sound familiar?

My first answer is: I am with you. The last few weeks have been challenging to navigate. In order to understand why we are feeling this, I think it is important we celebrate & recognize our awareness to what is happening all around us - there IS a lot of moving parts & there IS a lot to keep up with!

Next is about *slowly* taking action to provide you with some clarity, relief, & support.

Turning Your Decision Fatigue --> Getting Your Groove Back IS possible for you, & here are 5 practical steps you can take right now to achieve this:

  • Monitor your expectations. What success looks like for you today is most likely different than any other phase in our life. If you are feeling fatigued, ask yourself "Am I putting too much pressure on myself to accomplish too much in one given day?" If so, keep reading.

  • Accomplish one big task per day. Chunk down your to do list of what NEEDS to get done today vs. what can get done a different day. If you begin to accomplish ONE big task each day that will move you closer to your goal, you will slowly begin to make progress. Overtime your confidence will build up because you are moving the needle & getting closer to achieving your desired goal.

  • Delegate & Outsource. Interview, research, & ask your friends for trusted people who can support you get the solutions you are looking for. If you keep pushing something off, such as bookkeeping for your business or creating that LinkedIn profile that you've always wanted, consider outsourcing it. If you keep pushing something off, NOW is the time to ask for support. This is part of your self-care regimen.

  • Create internal deadlines. Accountability & deadlines - the only two reasons why I've sent out this Sunday email every week for nearly two years. It is challenging to create content on a deadline, but I know my clients (yes, you!) are expecting these emails. When I have deadlines, my work gets done. No sugar coating this one.

  • Fuel your body. This is a reminder that if our body is running low on high quality fuel, our output, energy, & mindset will end up burning out. Treat your physical & emotional body well. Switch that second coffee for a decaf, instead of reaching for that diet soda grab an ice cold lemon water, opt for a small hummus & crackers snack instead of loading up on pizza every night.... All of this counts towards living your best life!

Remember: Think Big, Act Small.
