Tips for Leaving a Positive Review
When was the last time you left a positive review or recommendation for a colleague on Google, Yelp, Facebook, or LinkedIn?
Moving forward, I am aiming to give one recommendation every 30 days.
Why?
Why it is important to leave reviews:
1) People look at them, such as employers or prospective clients.
2) When you give concrete real-life positive feedback, it is impactful for both the reader & yourself.
3) Referrals/Recommendations go a long way. They are evergreen (they stay there forever), & show concrete examples of the value that person brings to the profession/community.
4) Leaving a valuable & specific recommendation allows you to nurture, build, & maintain your network.
5) Allows LinkedIn to be more personal than vague or general. Connections don't mean much, relationships are what matter the most.
When leaving a review, make sure you:
1. Be specific. Give specific examples of why/how you recommend this person.
2. Avoid Ambiguity. Similar to #1 - make sure you are crystal clear as to WHO and WHY you should work with this person.
3. Answer the question as to WHY and WHO should work with this person (the person you are recommending).
What else is important about leaving a recommendation? Please leave in the comments!
