Top 5 Biggest Interview Mistakes (and how to avoid them)
It is another awesome week!!! Three of my interview prep clients landed new jobs PLUS they negotiated a collective $100,000 MORE in their earnings... All three of these clients avoided BIG mistakes I've been seeing in interviewees for years, and I want YOU to avoid these simple (but often missed!) mistakes too.
Top 5 Biggest Interview Mistakes (and how to avoid them!):
You feel unqualified for the role: Interviewers are WAY too busy to hand out interviews just to anyone; especially during the pandemic. Keep in mind, there is a reason why they are interviewing you! The company saw something about you that they liked (maybe from your application or personal brand), so job qualifications and all of that jargon gets tossed out the window when you are in the interview. Your interview is YOUR TIME to shine, and articulate to them WHY you are the perfect fit (no matter what your background is!).
You are a memorizing machine: You have NO idea what questions they will ask you during the interview, so what is the purpose of memorizing answers? Instead, get comfortable answering: Tell me about yourself, why do you want this role, and why are you the perfect fit for this position.
You are too vague in your answers: General and vague answers do not make the cut in a competitive marketplace. You need to be specific, intentional, and crystal clear as to why they should choose you over someone else. Be deliberate when answering this question, provide specific examples as to why they should chose YOU.
Thinking the interviewers are out to trick you: Interviewers are humans too! They don’t want to see you mess up, they don’t want to waste your time, and they don’t want the interview to be awkward! They are there to learn about you and get a better understanding of your expertise. Interviews are a dialogue and should be a two-way conversation.
You accept the job on the spot: Don’t miss your opportunity to negotiate! Yesterday my client made $20,000 MORE simply because she pushed back the original offer AND negotiated!
Do you have any other pro tips on how to stand out and nail your interview?! If so, email me at hello@rxashlee.com, I would love to hear from you!
Let's do this!!!
Be well,
