Consulting vs. Coaching – is there a difference?

Consulting vs. Coaching – is there a difference?

Every day I have clients that reach out to me asking the specific steps it takes to stand out in a competitive marketplace.

And, after working with thousands of clients, I realize there is no one-size fits all solution. My strategy in answering this question depends on the individual client & the goal.

In both scenarios, I am either their personal coach, the expert consultant, or sometimes BOTH.

***Please note: There is a distinct difference between coaching & consulting.***

Coaching – objective support & guidance to navigate your goals

  • You are unclear of your goal, & need support in getting there.

  • The coach asks you thought provoking & objective questions to allow you (the client) to draw their own conclusion.

  • The coach meets the client where they are at & creates a unique strategy with the client to move them forward in achieving their desired result.

  • The coach provides accountability to the client to ensure their desired end result is achieved.

  • The coach helps the client define what success means.

Consulting – expert opinion & instructs the client what to do

  • You have many goals, & now you need answers on how to achieve the goal.

  • The consultant provides the roadmap to success.

  • The consultant provides a step-by-step solution to support the client achieve the desired result.

  • The consultant tells the client what success looks like or benchmarks to achieve success.

2 Examples of what a coach does NOT do:

  • Provide you the specific answer

  • Determine your goal

2 Examples of what a consultant does NOT do:

  • Figure out where you want to go

  • Discovery of goals

As many of my clients will tell you: RX Ashlee is a company that provides a BLEND of both expert consulting & personal coaching.

Yours truly,

Ashlee
